Where do we begin to start? Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea served up one of the most dramatic, action-packed Premier League matches ever.

From beginning to end, this London derby had everything. Goals, red card and numerous VAR checks and that was just the first half! Fans could not take their eyes off this for a split second.

Here we, somehow, try to make sense of how it all unfolded.

6mins: GOAL! Dejan Kulusevski fires Spurs into an early lead with a deflected shot, that goes in past a wrong-footed Robert Sanchez.

14mins: NO GOAL! Brennan Johnson breaks down the left and crosses for Son Heung-min to tap in. But wait, Son is flagged offside and a VAR review confirms no goal.

18mins: YELLOW CARD! Destiny Udogie slides in with a hard challenge on Raheem Sterling, who does well not take the full force of the tackle, but the Spurs defender is shown a yellow card.

Experts' views

Glenn Hoddle: "This worried me because he’s left the ground. If he gets any part of Sterling there that’s a red card. He’s left the ground and he’s not in control. But he’s won the ball and not caught him so for me that’s a yellow card."

Michael Owen: "That’s ridiculous, that tackle. He’s so lucky he’s not caught Sterling. You can’t excuse it."

21mins: NO GOAL! Reece James plays in Sterling, whose first shot is blocked, but he forces home at the second attempt. A VAR review confirms that Sterling handles in the build-up to his goal and his effort is ruled out.

33mins: NO GOAL! Moises Caicedo's low strike finds the bottom corner and he runs off to celebrate his first goal for Chelsea. Hang on a minute, it's offside again! No goal, Nicolas Jackson is in an offside position. Chelsea's wait to equalise goes on.

34mins: RED CARD! But in the build-up to Caicedo's shot, the VAR advised referee Michael Oliver that Cristian Romero had committed serious foul play for a bad tackle on Enzo Fernandez, earning the Spurs defender a straight red card and a penalty for Chelsea.

Experts' views

Joe Cole: "It’s reckless and he’s followed through. He’s endangered his opponent. Romero has to learn or he’s going to get 20, 30 or 40 red cards in his career. There was no need to go in with that force."

Glenn Hoddle: "I disagree! He’s won the ball. He’s clearing the ball. If he’s gone to clear the ball, missed the ball completely and then hit the player, then I understand the red. But that to me is a booking. Where can he follow through? He can’t go anywhere else!"

35mins: GOAL! Guglielmo Vicario dives the correct way and gets his fingers to Cole Palmer's penalty, but the ball squeezes over the line and it's 1-1. Nerves of steel from the Chelsea midfielder, who nets his third spot-kick of the season.

38mins: NO GOAL! Spurs are temporarily down to nine men as Pedro Porro is off the pitch injured. Sterling plays in Jackson, but Sterling was offside.

41mins: YELLOW CARD! Ange Postecoglou never usually loses his cool, but even the affable Australian is caught up in the drama and goes into the book for dissent.

45mins: ADDED TIME: 12 minutes shown by the fourth official!

45+1min: DOUBLE INJURY BLOW! This does not look good for Spurs. James Maddison, who has been excellent since he joined, goes down holding his ankle and hobbles off.

45+1 min: Likewise for Micky van de Ven, who clutches his hamstring and is also forced off.

45+10mins: THREE MORE YELLOW CARDS! Pape Sarr, Jackson and Levi Colwill are all booked as tempers start to reach boiling point!

FIRST HALF ENDS! So much has happened and there is still another half to play. Incredible!

55mins: RED CARD! Spurs are down to NINE after Udogie catches Sterling yet again. The Italy international is shown his second yellow card of the evening and heads for the tunnel.

Spurs' high line: Despite being down to nine men, Spurs continue to press high off the ball, leaving space in behind for Chelsea to attack.

Spurs' high line

Glenn Hoddle: "I couldn’t believe they continued with it. This is so naive. Chelsea have spare men on the ball and can play it in behind at any time. They’re like mannequins, Spurs, standing still!

Joe Cole: "If we got 20 of the world’s top coaches in a room and said they’re down to nine men, still in the game, none of them would have done what Ange did."

Ange Postecoglou: "It's just who we are, mate. It's who we're gonna be as long as I'm here. We go down to five men, we'll have a go."

Back to the action!

58mins: OFF THE LINE! Substitute Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg somehow knees Jackson's downward header from the free-kick over his own bar and onto the roof of the net. Jackson really should have scored, but the Dane does well to direct the effort away from danger.

68mins: SAVE! Vicario comes to the rescue again with a brilliant save, as Chelsea substitute Marc Cucurella bears down on his goal. Chelsea are knocking at the door here, it's only a matter of time.

74mins GOAL! Chelsea take the lead! Sterling breaks through Spurs' high line and races towards the box before squaring to Jackson, who has the simple of task of tapping in his first. VAR check to see if Sterling is offside. Check complete and the visitors lead 2-1.

78mins: NO GOAL! Eric Dier thinks he has equalised for Spurs with a super volley but the flag shoots up for offside. VAR checks...goal number FIVE is ruled out! That was an incredible finish from the substitute, straight after Chelsea had scored and was keeping very much within the context of this crazy encounter.

90+4mins: BIG CHANCE! Son breaks free and drives at the Chelsea defence. He does brilliantly to work space for himself on the edge of the box but his low strike is saved by Sanchez.

90+4mins GOAL! Chelsea immediately break up the other end and Conor Gallagher tees up Jackson for his second. Three for Chelsea and two from their striker.

90+7mins: GOAL! Spurs' defence is absolutely shattered. They have stood firm and repelled numerous Chelsea attacks, but there is little they can do to stop Jackson completing his hat-trick. The striker takes his time, calmly rounding the goalkeeper and finishing.
