Why Spurs can dream about the title

Ange Postecoglou wrote himself into Premier League history as Tottenham Hotspur beat Fulham 2-0 on Monday night, but the head coach believes his side can perform better.

Goals from Son Heung-min and James Maddison extended Spurs’ unbeaten start to the season and the three points gave Postecoglou a record 23 points from his first nine Premier League matches — seven wins, two draws and no defeats.

Even so, the Australian was not entirely satisfied.

"It was a good win, it wasn't a brilliant performance," Postecoglou told the club's official website. "We worked hard. I think our work without the ball again today was outstanding, as it has been all year, and I think that's won us the game.

"First half we were good; we had to be patient. Fulham were well-organised. We had to bide our time a bit. We probably could have had one or two more goals with the chances we created.

"Second half we were really wasteful with the ball. We were really poor, as poor as we've been all year to be honest. We'll take the win, it's another good win for us but there's plenty to learn."

Happy with Hojbjerg

While not entirely satisfied with his side's performance, Postecoglou was pleased with the seamless manner in which Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg slotted into the side in place of Yves Bissouma, who was suspended.

"Pierre was good, he did some great work for us from a defensive point of view," the head coach said. "He was good with the ball, especially in the first half.

"It was important him coming in because Biss [Bissouma] has been really influential for us this year. Him coming in allowed us to continue trying to play in the same way we want to without too many adjustments. He was great."
